About Andrew Carver
Upon fulfillment of his general residency requirements in Philadelphia, and specialization requirements in podiatry in California, Dr. Andrew Carver,
embarked upon his medical career with a focus on sports medicine and treatment innovations in podiatry. Just four years after receipt of his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in 1976, he was appointed to the faculty of California School of Podiatric Medicine as Surgical Assistant Professor, where he served for five years. While there, Dr. Carver also participated in Phase III research in the Dermagraft treatment of non-healing ulcerations in patients suffering from circulatory disorders.
Dr. Andrew Carver’s interest in sports medicine led him into the realm of professional and semi-professional sports, where he treated high profile
professional athletes such as Barry Bonds, Joe Montana, and Andre Agassi. He also served as team podiatrist or consultant to the Oakland Invaders, the Golden State Warriors, and the ATP Sybase Men’s Tennis Tournament. He developed a series of lectures for both the Honolulu and San Francisco Marathons.
Consistently focused on the newest of emerging treatment modalities in his field, Andrew Carver partnered with the Biomet Corporation, playing a key role in the development of the company’s Weil-Carver Hammertoe Implant, a significant leap forward in the treatment of hammertoe that has replaced the standard surgical procedure. The implantation of a fully absorbable pin that dissolves over time measurably reduces the risk of infection and improves healing time. Additionally, Dr. Carver, DPM, was one of the first in his field to employ new laser treatments for wart removal, Achilles tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis, including the The Nomir Near Infrared Computer Guided Laser technology.
Andrew Carver has served as a volunteer in both Thailand and Mexico. Immediately following the 2004 tsunami in Thailand, he offered his services as a surgical assistant. In Mexico, he worked with the Baja Project to remediate club foot deformities. While practicing in San Francisco, he lent his time and talent to the Everyman’s Free Clinic, addressing common podiatric ailments of the homeless and other underserved residents of the San Francisco community. He is a retired Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Diabetes Association, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
Dr. Andrew Carver is licensed in Hawaii and Washington, D.C., where he currently practices. He maintains a lifelong interest in the breeding and
training of Arabian horses, as well as in ostrich farming. When not at work, Andrew Carver might be found on the tennis court, in the gym, or on the golf course.
